7 Things That Helped Me Improve My Life

If there’s one thing 2020 taught me, it was to put my mental, emotional, and physical health first.

Making Time to Sweat It Out

I can honestly say that I noticed an increase in energy, improvement in mood, and a boost in my confidence since I started working out. I love starting my day with a workout because it helps me start on a positive note and I release all those endorphins. Plus, when I get home I can just relax and hang out with my hubby.

Taking Social Media Breaks

Social media is a powerful tool that comes with both positive and negative side effects. It’s a great place for inspiration but can also lead to constantly comparing oneself with others (no bueno!). I think it’s important to ditch your devices for maybe 2 hours a day or when getting ready for bed. Taking a break can help you sleep better, relax a bit more, and free up your time to focus on more important things. I’ve said this before, no one Is going to post the bad or ugly. Perfect doesn’t exist so don’t let those curated, only happy moments you see on social media set up unrealistic expectations.

Reading

Currently I’m reading It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way by Lysa Terkeurst it’s a book on finding unexpected strength when disappoints leave you shattered. My husband really enjoys reading and he inspired me to start reading more. Not only is reading a good exercise for your brain, but is also helps you relax and reduces stress. I’m a huge fan of self help, personal development, and autobiographies.

Learning To Say No

I used to say yes to almost every invite, favor, dinner, etc and it would leave me feeling exhausted. Learning to say NO was not easy, but I’m much happier now. If you're a born people pleaser, saying no will not come easy. But saying yes to everything creates stress, puts your needs at the back of the list, and you will eventually get burned out. It truly is an important step on the road to self-care.

Change my Eating Habits

The best investment in your health starts with what you eat and how you care for your body. Eating healthy isn't always easy. But, it’s all about balance and not feeling guilty about eating some fries or a slice of pizza on a Friday night. By adding simple healthy easting habits into your everyday life you’ll be able to reach your happy weight naturally and you'll never have to diet again!

Making my Room More Relaxing

It’s important to make your bedroom a sanctuary of relaxing vibes. You guys know I love throws, I always make sure to have at least one cozy throw blanket on my bed at all times! Keep your pillow cases fresh and in a pretty neutral color. Get rid of clutter and only keep what you need on your night stand. Such as, the book you are reading, lip balm, eye mask, etc. Finally, get yourself a diffuser and add some lavender oil to help keep the scent flowing.

With everything going on in the world I think it’s important to make small changes and focus on our self-care.
